LA Dance Chronicle Features Professor Kevin Williamson

Professor Kevin Williamson

Professor of Dance Kevin Williamson, chair of Scripps’ Department of Dance, performed a self-choreographed solo, Beast & Blue, at the in January where he was accompanied by Professor of Music Music Hao Huang on the piano. The performance was featured recently on LA Dance Chronicle, which shares articles and news around dance artists in Los Angeles.

In the performance, Williamson meditates on the confines and nuance of despair and critiques current cultural and political norms.

“Williamson elucidates a list of words and themes that are not part of today’s rhetoric and as he does so he applies a clothespin to the skin of his arm,” LA Dance Chronicle’s Brian Fretté writes. “These serve to remind him in painful form of what we, as a society, have lost by refusing to speak about things like antiracism and so many more. It is a further indictment of the times we live in as if we need any more proof other than a cursory glance at any headline in any news feed anywhere.”
