Professor Martha Gonzalez
Associate Professor of Chicanx-Latinx Studies Martha Gonzalez has been included among other local community leaders as an inspirational figures behind a new collection of plays produced by a local theatre residency program. a series of social justice plays written and performed by high school students, will premiere in February 2026.
The plays are produced by , and organization partnering with leading Los Angeles-based musicians, writers, directors, designers, and performers to create original works about LA history and social justice.
Students in the residency interviewed local social justice leaders, including Gonzalez, and developed the piece based on their stories and advocacy.
The plays will be performed on February 13, 2026 at the Roosevelt High School Performing Arts Center in Boyle Heights, Gonzalez’s hometown. Admission is free and is recommended.
