Assistant Professor of History and Africana Studies Westenley Alcenat was quoted in a recent The Washington Post article about President Donald Trump’s rhetoric against Black immigrants, particularly Somali migrants, at the World Economic Forum.
Trump’s comments about the Somali community date back to at least 2016, the article cites, noting that recent foreign policy decisions like suspending the processing of visas from 75 countries target nearly half African and mostly-Black Caribbean nations.
“Whether it be the rhetoric of they’re dirty, they bring in crime, they bring in drugs, they bring in disease, none of this is new,” Alcenat told The Washington Post.
